YOU NEED TO SLEEP
10:21
Alright, many will be wondering why I had to write on a topic as
this especially with the fact that most of us already have reasons why
we need to sleep. But that is the health-wise aspect of it. Today we
will be looking at the concept sleep from another perspective.
Gen. 2; 20b – 22
“But for Adam there was not found a help meet for him. And the Lord
God caused a deepsleepto fall upon Adam, and heslept; and he took one of
his ribs and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib which the
Lord God has taken from man, made he a woman and brought her unto the
man”.(Emphasis mine).
Today, we shall be looking at the story of Adam. Why have I decided
to dwell on this? Most young people especially teenagers are often in
the rush to get tangled to the opposite sex for an intimate
relationship. Perhaps this is due to the pressure from peers or maybe
because of the world we live in today makes it feels “like if you are
not in a relationship you are less of a being”.
Now, get my point, I am not saying being in a relationship (Intimate)
is bad or wrong. But the motive behind getting into one is my interest
here. Buy why should we look at the story of Adam, reason is that Adam’s
relationship story is the perfect example of how to get it right.
From the opening scriptures we saw that Adam was lonely or without a
help meet, this was because all the animals where in pairs; male and
female, helping each other out “but for Adam, there was not found a help
meet”. This is the situation we may find ourselves today. Because
people around us, friends all have someone with them, makes us want to
feel like we don’t belong then makes us want to rush into any available
open arms, thereby truncating God’s purpose for our lives.
Adam, the first man, didn’t do this, instead God caused him a deep
“sleep” and took one of his ribs and God made a woman and brought her
unto him. The problem here is that most of us don’t want to sleep even
after instructed by God to do so. From our scripture, you will notice
that God cause Adam tosleepand heslept.
Now, I am not saying you should “relax” and God will bring in the right/perfect person to you.
Sleep in this context entails something different. Instead of rushing
into that relationship, why don’t you sleep? Yes, in sleeping you need
to settle some issues in some areas of your life. What are the areas in
your life that need settlement? Are you right with God? You need to be
right with Him. Is your life acceptable before Him? Do you love him? If
you don’t love him, then you can’t love another person which is one of
the foundations which every good relationship stands. “You shall love
the Lord with all of your heart”. When you give him your heart, he
settles who gets it.
Another thing you need to settle while you sleep is what are the
motives for going into that relationship? Is it for marriage, fun or
just to while away time and have someone to keep you company. There
should be a purpose for the relationship or there shouldn’t be any
tangling. And as matured and responsible children of God the purpose
should be that it will lead to marriage.
Now, you know the purpose, another question to settle is; how matured
are you. I will like to view maturity in two parts; physical and
financial maturity.
Are your emotions balanced? Can you handle heartbreaks, quarrels,
mood-swings, miss-understandings, coping with each other’s behaviours
and attitude different from yours? Etc. the list goes on and on. If that
is settled, what about financial maturity? When you decide to tangle,
you must be financially committed to the well-being or needs of that
person. You may not necessarily provide all but necessity is on you to
assist him or her. You should be able to cater for yourself and the
person you want to be with.
You also need to work on your temperaments and attitudes, you also
need to work on your ability to accommodate and accept others flaws and
mistakes and see how it can be worked on and accommodated.
The last thing I want to say here while you sleep is that as a
youngster, use your potentials and gifting to serve God, bless lives and
not bow to the pressure of wanting to be in a relationship that would
rather ruin God’s purpose for your life. When you sleep, God will lead
you to the right person at the appointed time. He makes all things
beautiful in his time. Remain blessed.
